KGB's first words to me were, "I'm going to steal your girlfriend," and his second words were, "No, really, I'm going to steal your girlfriend." Somehow, he had a way of saying that and it wasn't threatening, it was just fun. We started hanging out together around May 2001 and for 6 months we went out probably 2 or 3 times per week. I've heard lots of people say that they cannot remember KGB saying anything bad about anybody, and I can say that's totally true for me too, I cannot remember him saying a bad word about anybody. What a great example of a way to live your life.
The say that the measure of a man is how he treats people who can do absolutely nothing for him; I remember KGB telling me about taking certain hashers under his wing, guys who weren't "cool" and making them feel comfortable and at home. I know KGB's measure. And I know I'll miss him, although right now it still does not feel real. KGB was a great hasher the way hashers were meant to be, he exercised, was a good friend, a great guy, had fun and didn't do it at anybody else's expense.
The last memory I have of him is him staying at my house a couple weeks ago (he was in Orlando for a job) and sitting on the couches talking about self-improvement. I was putting labels on postcards for a mailing, and for some reason I so vividly remember him just grabbing a pile and helping me put the labels on them. I don't know why that stands out, it just does. |
